Biography

Frances Ligler is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University and holds the Eppright Chair. She is recognized as a Member of the National Academy of Engineering and as a University Distinguished Professor. Ligler has a distinguished educational background, receiving her D.Sc. in Biosensor Technology and D.Phil. in Biochemistry from Oxford University. Her research interests include biosensors, tissue-on-a-chip, microfluidics, biochemistry, immunology, and analytical chemistry. She has been awarded numerous honors throughout her career, including the Simon Ramo Founders Award from the National Academy of Engineering in 2020 and honorary doctorates from Furman University and the Agricultural University of Athens. Ligler's work has also been recognized by her induction into the U.S. National Inventors Hall of Fame. She served as the U.S. Navy Senior Scientist for Biosensors and Biomaterials at the Naval Research Laboratory from 1986 to 2013.
