Biography

Frances Turner Mock has over 15 years of teaching experience at Duke University School of Law. She currently teaches Negotiation, Corporate Counseling, Communication for upper-level students, and Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing, which is a required first-year course. Mock graduated magna cum laude from Duke Law School and received the Law School Community Award. During her time as a student, she served as the Senior Editor for the Journal of Law and Contemporary Problems and co-directed the Public Interest Law Foundation. After graduating, she clerked for the Honorable N. Carlton Tilley, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, and practiced law at some of North Carolina’s largest law firms, representing clients in both state and federal courts. Over the last twenty years, she has owned her own law practice specializing in risk management and claims management for recreation programs, working primarily with large international non-profits engaged in wilderness-based operations. Mock has also represented organizations like LL Bean’s Outdoor Discovery School and the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). An experienced whitewater rafting guide, she enjoys the outdoors and has visited more than twenty national parks.
