Biography

Dr. Mary-Frances Scully is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and serves as the Director of the Adult Provincial Hemophilia Program. She is an adult hematologist and oncologist based at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. Her medical education includes training at University College Dublin, followed by specializations in pediatrics. She has notable experience as a community pediatrician, even spending time at a Buddhist monastery in India. Dr. Scully has been actively involved in several professional organizations, including the Thrombosis Interest Group of Canada and has served on the board of the Association of Hemophilia Clinic Directors of Canada. Her research centers on improving outcomes for individuals with rare blood disorders, and she focuses on epigenetic factors that may influence patient outcomes. Her major research area involves epidemiology and optimal management of Hereditary Bleeding Disorders, particularly concerning the high prevalence rates of mild hemophilia and Factor XIII deficiency in Newfoundland and Labrador.
