Dr. Frances Thielman

Biography

Frances Thielman holds a PhD in English from Texas A&M University and a certificate in Women's and Gender Studies. Her primary field of expertise is Victorian literature, with subspecialties in medicine, literature, ecocriticism, and the history of sanitation infrastructure. Thielman is a College Reading Learning Association certified Master Tutor and has worked as a writing consultant in writing centers across the country for nine years. She has designed writing curricula within the Department of English and the Department of Civil Engineering and has trained teachers with the Center for Teaching Excellence. Her research interests include 18th and 19th-century British literature and culture, composition, rhetoric, discourse studies, the history of sanitation, waste management, gender and sexuality studies, and environmental literatures with a focus on ecocriticism.
