Biography

Fran Weiner is a Lecturer at Columbia Law School and serves as the Director of Legal Training at the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office. She began her career as a prosecutor in 1995 after completing an appellate clerkship with the Honorable J. Sydney Hoffman in Philadelphia. In 2002, she started trying a wide range of violent felony cases and was promoted to Criminal Court Deputy Bureau Chief of the Trial Division shortly thereafter. Weiner also held the position of Grand Jury Deputy Bureau Chief and served as the Felony Deputy Bureau Chief. In 2014, she was appointed Deputy Bureau Chief of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau, where she managed complex cases for the Kings County District Attorney's Office. In 2015, she returned to the Trial Division as Bureau Chief for trial zones and in 2017 was appointed by District Attorney Gonzalez as Director of Legal Training. In addition to her administrative responsibilities, she lectures to junior and senior attorneys on various topics and regularly trains NYPD officers throughout the five boroughs on investigative encounters. Fran has also lectured at NYU School of Law and is a member of the Criminal Advocacy Committee of the New York City Bar Association.
