Dr. Francesca Ceroni

Biography

Francesca Ceroni is an Associate Professor at Imperial College London's Department of Chemical Engineering, specializing in Cell Engineering. She graduated in Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies from the University of Bologna and obtained her PhD in Bioengineering from the same university, where her thesis focused on the development of synthetic genetic devices in prokaryotic cells. With a strong background in molecular biology and mathematical modeling, Francesca’s research investigates the interactions between genetic constructs and host cells, aiming to design synthetic circuits that function efficiently within biological systems. She has held various esteemed positions, including a Visiting Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and a Junior Research Fellow at Imperial College. Her ongoing research includes host-aware engineering in both mammalian and bacterial cells and the application of computational biology for synthetic design. Francesca is also interested in biosecurity and bioethics, examining the implications of scientific research within the global governance framework. Her work is well-recognized in the field, with numerous selected publications and collaborations with industry leaders.
