Dr. Francesca Chiaromonte

Biography

Francesca Chiaromonte is a Professor of Statistics at Penn State University, holding the Dorothy Foehr Huck J. Lloyd Huck Chair in Statistics for Life Sciences. She received her Laurea (cum laude) in Statistical Economic Sciences from the University of Rome La Sapienza and her Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Minnesota. Her research interests focus on high-dimensional data analysis, including dimension reduction and feature selection, regression, and multivariate methods with applications in bioinformatics, meteorology, and economics. Francesca has a multi-faceted role at Penn State, including affiliations with the Department of Public Health Sciences and the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. She is also the director of the Institute for Genome Sciences within the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. In addition to her academic roles, Francesca is actively involved in advancing statistical methodologies to address complex data structures and is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, recognized for her contributions to the interface between statistics and life sciences.
