Biography

Francesca Ciccarelli is a prominent figure in Cancer Genomics and Bioinformatics, currently leading the Centre for Cancer Evolution at Barts Cancer Institute. She graduated with a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Bologna and later earned her PhD in Natural Science from the University of Heidelberg, where she also worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Peer Bork's lab at EMBL. Francesca established her own research group at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, where she developed a systems-level approach to studying cancer genes and analyzed high-throughput cancer genomic data. In 2014, she joined King's College London as an Associate Professor in Cancer Genomics and Bioinformatics and became a Professor in 2018. In 2017, she was seconded to the Francis Crick Institute as a Principal Investigator. Francesca has made significant contributions to the field of cancer research, particularly through her work in comparative genomics and phylogenetics, and her leadership in cancer evolution themes at the CRUK City of London Centre.
