Dr. Francesca Gori

Biography

Francesca Gori is an Associate Professor at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where she specializes in Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity. She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Florence in Italy. Gori began her professional career as a postdoctoral fellow at the Mayo Clinic under Larry Riggs, focusing on the effects of signaling molecules and hormones on human mesenchymal stem cell lines and bone remodeling. In 2000, she became an instructor in medicine and was promoted to assistant professor at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2005 after her significant discovery of the gene Wdr5, which plays a crucial role in chromatin modifications associated with chondrocyte and osteoblast differentiation. In 2011, she joined the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Gori is recognized for her numerous publications and has received several awards, including the Harold Frost Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and the John Haddad Young Investigator Award from Advances in Mineral Metabolism. She actively serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research and contributes to the education of DMD students and residents, holding various leadership roles in research and curriculum development related to oral biology and craniofacial developmental genetics. Gori's research primarily focuses on the molecular and cellular genetics underlying skeletal homeostasis, with a major emphasis on Wnt signaling and its regulation of skeletal stem cells and bone homeostasis.
