Biography

Francesca Meloni is a social anthropologist focused on the migration-citizenship nexus and its intersections with race, age, access rights, and welfare. Having completed her PhD at McGill University in 2014, she joined King's College London after serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford and UCL. Meloni also held positions at Humboldt University in Berlin and Northumbria University. Her interdisciplinary work lies at the crossroads of anthropology, sociology, and critical social policy, with extensive experience in conducting ethnographic participatory research. Her published research includes the book 'Ways of Belonging: Undocumented Youth and Shadow Illegality,' which examines the experiences of undocumented young people excluded from K–12 education in Canada. This significant work has earned her the Hart–SLSA Prize for Early Career Academics awarded by the Socio-Legal Studies Association. Meloni's research interests encompass migration, citizenship rights, undocumented immigration, social belonging, welfare access, and ethical participatory research approaches.
