Biography

Francesca Pilo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University. Prior to joining Utrecht University, she held positions at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, Université Paris Diderot in France, and the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Pilo completed her PhD in Urban Planning, jointly supervised by Université Paris Est (laboratoire LATTS) in France and Fluminense Federal University (UFF) in Brazil. Her research interests primarily lie in the political role of infrastructures in the production of cities and the mediating relationship between citizens and institutional actors. Her specific research focus concerns the governance of urban infrastructure, interaction with urban services, the right to the city, citizenship, informal urbanization, and the urban energy transition. Pilo has conducted extensive research in various locations, including Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Kingston in Jamaica.
