Dr. Francesca Seta

Biography

Francesca Seta is an Associate Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in vascular biology. Her laboratory focuses on the basic mechanisms underlying vascular diseases with particular emphasis on vascular smooth muscle biology. Current research aims to understand the molecular mechanisms of arterial stiffening, aortic aneurysms, and dissections, alongside degenerative vascular conditions and associated therapies. She has identified critical transcription factors and genetic loci that influence arterial stiffness, emphasizing the importance of vascular smooth muscle phenotype for arterial integrity. Dr. Seta's work incorporates advanced imaging techniques and in vitro and in vivo approaches to explore potential therapeutic targets and develop novel interventions for vascular diseases. She is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, advocating for underrepresented groups within the scientific community and providing mentorship to students and early-stage investigators from diverse backgrounds.
