Biography

Francesca Stella is a Senior Lecturer in the Sociology Department at the University of Glasgow. She previously served as an LKAS Research Fellow and held an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Weeks Centre for Social Policy Research at London South Bank University. Her research primarily focuses on migration and sexuality, particularly the experiences of migrants in relation to integration policies and broader political discourses on migration. She is currently leading a project on language learning for migrant integration in Scotland and has conducted significant research on the experiences of queer migrants from Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. Her work employs an intersectional approach and has included ethnographic studies in urban Russia and the evaluation of educational materials for LGBT migrants. Stella has published extensively, including co-editing special issues and contributing to collections on topics relating to sexuality, gender, nationalism, and human rights. She actively supervises PhD students and teaches various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in sociology, with a focus on contemporary migration and social justice issues.
