Biography

Francesco Bavo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology at the University of Copenhagen. His research primarily focuses on the development of PROTACs (Proteolysis Targeting Chimeras) aimed at targeted protein degradation for central nervous system (CNS) diseases. He employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating structure-based drug design, chemical synthesis, and biochemical characterization to create novel therapeutic modalities for CNS targets. His work includes the development of small molecular probes and fluorescent probes for biochemical and cell-based library screening. Bavo holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Milan, where he focused on subtype-selective neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonists and antagonists. Over the years, he has received several prestigious awards and grants, including a Lundbeck Foundation Experiment research grant and recognition as a runner-up for the SCI prize for the best PhD thesis in medicinal chemistry.
