Francesco Borrelli received his Laurea degree in Computer Science Engineering in 1998 from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy. He earned his PhD in 2002 from the Automatic Control Laboratory at ETH-Zurich, Switzerland. In 2016, he was elected as an IEEE Fellow and in 2017 he received the Industrial Achievement Award from the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Council. His professional experience includes serving as a consultant for major international corporations and founding BrightBox Technologies Inc., a company focused on cloud-computing optimization for autonomous systems, which was acquired by Flex, Inc. in 2016. He co-directs the Hyundai Center of Excellence in Integrated Vehicle Safety Systems and Control at UC Berkeley and is a co-founder of WideSense, Inc., a UC Berkeley spinoff focused on Mobility Contextual Intelligence.
