Dr. Francesco Fiorito

Biography

Francesco Fiorito is an Associate Professor in High Performance Architecture at the University of New South Wales, with a focus on facade engineering design. Prior to joining UNSW, he held positions at the University of Sydney in the Architectural Science discipline and the Politecnico di Bari in Italy within the Architectural Engineering program. His research concentrates on the development of technologies and systems for kinetic facades, exploring the use of smart materials such as shape memory alloys, phase-change materials, and chromogenic materials to create self-adaptive building components. His efforts aim to reduce building energy demand while enhancing indoor comfort. Currently, Francesco represents Australia in the European COST Action 'Adaptive Facades Network' and serves as a Chief Investigator for various research projects both domestically and internationally, including the ARC-funded Training Centre for Advanced Manufacturing of Prefabricated Housing. He is also a Chartered Professional Engineer in Italy, with extensive experience in facade structural engineering, site management of civil industrial buildings, and design management of renewable energy plants, particularly in integrating solar technologies into building design.
