Biography

Francesco Forconi (MD, DM, PhD, FRCPath) is a Professor of Haematology at the University of Southampton, UK, and a leader of the academic Cancer B-cell Group. His team comprises world-class scientists dedicated to investigating the pathogenesis and clinical behavior of lymphomas and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). His recent research has focused on the early detection of monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis and cancer-specific post-translational modifications, particularly involving germinal center lymphomas and B-cell receptor therapeutics. Prof. Forconi is actively involved in patient care, leading the CLL service and overseeing a broad portfolio of interventional clinical trials. He serves as the UK lead for the international Cancer Research UK ECRIN-M3 consortium, which investigates early diagnosis methods for leukemias and lymphomas, establishing close collaborations with both European and international stakeholders. Additionally, he is a member of the UK National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Haematological Oncology Clinical Studies Group and has contributed to numerous technological appraisals for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) relating to novel agents in clinical practice. He is also an active core member of the International Hairy Cell Leukemia Foundation, leading the Southampton “Center of Excellence” for this condition. Prof. Forconi regularly serves on editorial boards for major journals in clinical and scientific immunology, oncology, and haematology, and is a noted presenter and contributor to numerous international conferences and educational programs. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and his work has significantly impacted case studies and research evaluations.
