Francesco Nex is currently an Associate Professor in Earth Observation Science at the University of Twente. He received his master's degree in Environmental Engineering in 2006, followed by a PhD in 2010 from TU Turin (Italy). From 2011 to 2015, he worked as a Marie-Curie Post-Doctoral researcher in the 3DOM unit at FBK (Italy). In 2015, he joined the University of Twente as an Assistant and then Associate Professor within the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC). His research focuses on fusing elements of photogrammetry and deep learning in robotics to develop innovative solutions for Geomatics applications. He has authored 150 publications in international journals and conferences and has been involved in various European and national research projects related to UAV data processing, leading the UAV center within the ITC Faculty. He chairs the ICWG I/II on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles at ISPRS and has contributed to other ISPRS scientific initiatives, serving on editorial boards for indexed journals. In 2020, he was awarded the ISPRS President’s Honorary Citation E.H. Thomson Award.
