Biography

Francesco Stellacci is a distinguished professor in the Institute of Materials at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, where he has held a position since 2010. He graduated in Materials Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 1998. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Chemistry Department of the University of Arizona, working closely with Joe Perry and Seth Marder. In 2002, Stellacci joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an assistant professor, later achieving associate professorship in 2006 and tenure in 2009. His research has largely concentrated on nanomaterials, nanomedicine, and the interactions at solid-liquid interfaces. He has received prestigious recognitions such as the Technology Review TR35 “35 Innovators Under 35” award in 2005 and the Popular Science “Brilliant 10” award in 2007. As a Packard Fellow, he has contributed significantly to the fields of chemistry and materials science, focusing on soft materials and supramolecular interactions. Stellacci holds the Alcan EP Chair and leads various projects that explore innovative nanotechnological applications, especially in biomedicine and environmental sustainability.
