Dr. Francine Benny

Biography

Francine Benny is an Associate Professor in the Department of French at Carleton University, where she has been a faculty member since 2003. She specializes in French literature and language instruction, drawing on over a decade of experience as a teacher educator at various institutions including Collège des Saints Coeurs in Byblos, Lebanon. Benny has also taught at Université Laval, focusing on French language and culture for seven years. Her research interests center on the history, culture, and language of French Canada, with an emphasis on the literature of Québec, including notable authors such as Joséphine Bacon and Michel Jean. She is passionate about using popular culture in her teaching methods to engage students in French language learning. In addition to her academic work, Benny is involved in creative projects, currently working on the fourth edition of a first-year workbook and a collection of poetry. Her work is characterized by a fascination with words, and she regularly conducts literary workshops and classes. She is dedicated to improving pedagogy within language instruction and is actively involved in the production of pedagogical materials.
