Biography

Professor Francine Marques is a fellow of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and has been awarded by the Viertel Charitable Foundation and the National Heart Foundation. She obtained her PhD in genomics from the University of Sydney in 2012 and completed her postdoctoral training with prestigious fellowships from NHMRC and the Heart Foundation. Since 2018, she has led the Hypertension Research Laboratory at Monash University, which is part of the Victorian Heart Institute, and serves as Deputy Director of Discovery. Her research is focused on improving cardiovascular health through innovative and translational strategies, including the gut microbiome's role in lowering blood pressure. She has secured over $12 million in competitive funding and published more than 140 peer-reviewed papers, earning recognition through 34 awards. Notably, she received the AHA Hypertension Council Goldblatt Award in 2019 and the Australian Academy of Science Gottschalk Medal in 2021. In 2024, she was honored with the ASMR Peter Doherty Leading Light Award. Additionally, Professor Marques is passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion within the research community and has led initiatives to tackle intrinsic equity issues.
