Biography

Dr. Alenghat's laboratory focuses on macrophage biology and the inflammatory processes underlying atherosclerosis. His clinical academic interests span cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology, with particular emphasis on vascular biology and the role of inflammatory pathways in the development of atherosclerotic disease. In addition, he has expertise in integrin biology, mechanotransduction, and extracellular matrix biology. The research aims to uncover the fundamental mechanisms that regulate cardiovascular health and disease. The central project in his laboratory investigates the signaling pathways activated downstream of integrins in macrophages and how these influence atherogenesis and macrophage polarization. Dr. Alenghat is deeply committed to mentoring future physicians and scientists, with the broader goal of promoting health and a deeper understanding of the reduction of cardiovascular disease.
