Biography

Francis Bambico is an Associate Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in behavioural neuroscience. He holds a B.A. from the University of the Philippines, an M.Sc. from the International Max Planck Research School in Tübingen, and a Ph.D. in Neurological Sciences from McGill University. He has received postdoctoral training at the Yale Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and is currently focused on the neurobiological underpinnings of stress and psycho-affective disorders. His research involves exploring the molecular links between synaptic scaling and stress controllability, particularly in relation to endocannabinoids and other neurotransmission systems. He employs a variety of methodologies, including transgenic models, electrophysiology, and imaging, to study the neurobiological bases of mood disorders. His current investigations aim to uncover therapeutic targets for rapid-acting treatments in cognitive and affective disorders, with a keen interest in ecological and drug-induced stressors and their impact on synaptic functions. In addition to his research, he is dedicated to mentoring students at various academic levels, supporting projects that address neurobiology and therapeutic brain stimulation.
