Biography

Francis Fortin (Ph.D. in Criminology) is a professor at the School of Criminology at the Université de Montréal and a researcher at the International Centre for Comparative Criminology (CICC). His research focuses on cybercrime, intelligence gathering, data mining, and forensic analysis. Previously, he worked with the Sûreté du Québec as a criminal intelligence analyst and team leader in cyber-surveillance. He has authored various scientific articles and co-authored a book on cyberpedophiles and served as the lead editor for a publication titled "Cybercrime: Between Misconduct and Organized Crime". Fortin was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award in 2018 by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the Université de Montréal. His research interests include crimes related to online child sexual exploitation, civil disobedience, and the psychosocial treatment and reoffending of sexual offenders. He is an active member of the SERENE network focused on cybersecurity.
