Biography

Contijoch earned a Ph.D. in Bioengineering in 2015 from the University of Pennsylvania. His graduate research was recognized with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) – NIH National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) Interfaces Fellowship and the National Institutes of Health National Heart, Lung, Blood Institute Fellowship. His thesis work involved the development of novel magnetic resonance (MR) imaging acquisition, reconstruction, and analysis techniques to assess regional cardiac function in cases of myocardial infarction and to quantify the physiological impacts of arrhythmias. Dr. Contijoch joined the UC San Diego School of Medicine as a postdoctoral fellow in Cardiology where he focused on developing innovative approaches to enhance coronary computed tomography (CT) angiography. His postdoctoral work was further supported by the UCSD Frontiers Innovation Scholars Postdoctoral Fellowship and the University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship. He is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, with a focus on translational cardiovascular imaging techniques aimed at diagnosing, monitoring, and understanding cardiac dysfunction and vascular disease.
