Biography

Francisco de Leon is a Professor and Director of Undergraduate Programs at the Tandon School of Engineering, New York University. He has an extensive academic career with a focus on electrical engineering, particularly in power systems, power delivery, and electromagnetic modeling. He started his academic journey with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico and later earned his PhD from the University of Toronto, Canada. Over his career, he has published over 130 journal papers and was elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2015. His research interests include power system transients, transformers, cables, and machine design. He has also directed research for numerous postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. His contributions to electrical engineering have garnered him significant external funding and recognition within the academic community, including serving as Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery.
