Biography

Dr. Francisco Guzman-Pruneda is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center and the Surgical Director of the Gastroparesis Program. He completed his medical education at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico, followed by a residency in General Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. His practice includes performing first-time weight loss operations and revisional corrective surgeries to address complications arising from prior bariatric procedures. He also conducts surgeries related to foregut issues, performing hiatal and paraesophageal hernia repairs, as well as anti-reflux surgery. His expertise extends to complex surgical management of advanced gastroparesis, particularly for patients not responding to medical therapies, and he is skilled in the implantation of the Enterra gastric stimulator device. Additionally, he has engaged in significant research during fellowships at prestigious institutions, including M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Guzman is fluent in Spanish and actively serves his community through various medical services.
