Biography

Dr. Francisco Otero-Cagide received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City in 1975 and completed a graduate diploma program in Periodontics at the University of Toronto in 1978. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 2006. Since joining the College of Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan in 1992, Dr. Otero-Cagide has focused his research on periodontal regeneration and wound healing. His contributions to the field have been recognized through various awards, including the Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award in Periodontics from the American Academy of Periodontology in 2021, 2017, 2009, and 2007, and the W.W. Wood Award for Excellence in Dental Education from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry in 1997. He also received the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Saskatchewan Students' Union in 1995.
