Biography

Francisco Valero-Cuevas is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Swarthmore College, followed by a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Queen's University, and completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. Throughout his academic career, Valero-Cuevas has made significant contributions to the field of Biomedical Engineering, focusing on topics such as Neuromuscular Systems, Neural Motor Control, and Biomechanical Modeling. His early research included developing non-invasive methods to estimate the kinematic integrity of the wrist joint and creating realistic biomechanical models of human digits. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award and the Viterbi Mellon Award. Valero-Cuevas has held faculty positions at Stanford University and Cornell University prior to joining USC, where he was promoted to Full Professor in 2011. He is also a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineers.
