Dr. Franco Lepore

Biography

Franco Lepore has excelled as a professor-researcher in the field of neuropsychology. He is credited with significant developments in experimental neuropsychology, establishing it as a dynamic discipline within psychology. He holds a PhD in psychology from the Université de Montréal (1971) and has completed postdoctoral work at the University of Pisa. As of 2009, he was a full professor in the Department of Psychology at the Université de Montréal and director of the Centre de recherche en neuropsychologie et cognition (CERNEC), which he co-founded in 1988. The center boasts numerous researchers and cutting-edge equipment, including a magnetoencephalograph worth over six million dollars, linking its activities closely to both the academic and hospital sectors. Lepore's research focuses on understanding the cerebral functions of perception, attention, and emotions, exploring areas such as the exceptional auditory capabilities of the blind and the functional communication between the two cerebral hemispheres in patients with various neurological impairments. He has been pivotal in establishing clinical neuropsychology programs and building a team of internationally recognized researchers across multiple investigation fields. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
