Dr. François Brouard

Biography

François Brouard is a tenured Professor at the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University, where he has been a faculty member for 22 years. He serves as the Director of the Sprott Centre for Social Enterprises and the Professional Accounting Research Group. Brouard’s research interests encompass a diverse array of topics, including governance in charities and nonprofits, strategic intelligence for small and mid-sized enterprises, and the career trajectories of accountants. He has established a significant research program that also delves into the intersection of business and comedy, particularly focusing on the business strategies of comedians in Quebec. Brouard co-created the Professional Accounting Research Group with support from CPA Ontario, which aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing within the accounting industry. Additionally, he is actively involved in mentoring PhD and MSc students in projects that cover critical themes such as tax literacy and carbon tax, further enhancing organizational capabilities among small firms. His commitment to excellence in the field is recognized through his distinctions as a Fellow Chartered Accountant and a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant, the latter being the highest honor bestowed by the CPA. He is currently engaged in research that seeks to understand and elucidate business strategies in the comedy sector, reflecting his unique approach to merging academic inquiry with practical industry insights.
