Biography

François de Champlain completed his specialty in Emergency Medicine in 2003 at McGill University, Quebec, Canada. He currently works as an Emergency Physician and Trauma Team Leader at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). He has completed clinical research training at Harvard Medical School and is currently pursuing a Master of Health Leadership at McGill University. His main areas of expertise include Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Mass Gathering events, Disaster Preparedness, and Trauma Resuscitation. He is involved with Urgences-santé (Montreal EMS) as an Assistant Medical Director and serves on the provincial advisory committee of the Collège des Médecins for EMS. Over the years, he has been the Medical Director for various endurance sporting events in Montreal, including the ITU Triathlon, Mont-Tremblant IRONMAN, and the Montreal Marathon. He is also the Founding President of the Jacques de Champlain Foundation, which focuses on promoting and facilitating public access to defibrillators (AEDs) and creating a provincial registry for their locations. In 2016, he became a member of the MUHC ECMO committee, where he participated in the implementation of an in-hospital ECPR program. His current research focuses on strategies to increase cardiac arrest survival and public use of AEDs.
