Professor Dr. Francois Flocard

Biography

Francois Flocard has over 15 years of applied experience in consulting engineering projects, focusing on coastal engineering and the marine renewable energy sector. He has managed projects involving coastal hazards, structures, climate change adaptation, and physical and numerical modeling, as well as coastal monitoring. With expertise in marine renewables, he has overseen the installation of a 250 kW pilot device in Victoria and led large studies related to wave dynamics and energy conversion. His work includes modeling 30 coastal and offshore structure projects in the last decade, leading to numerous publications in physical modeling methods, case studies, and assessments of rock and concrete armored structures. He is recognized as one of Australia’s foremost experts in using physical models to analyze coastal and marine structures and regularly conducts numerical modeling investigations for coastal processes and hazards. His projects span from Tasmania to Darwin and within the Australasia region. Additionally, he is an active member of the marine renewable energy and coastal engineering communities, participating in committees such as the PIANC and the Australian Standard committee for marine energy converters.
