François Guimbretière is a Professor in the Department of Information Science at Cornell Bowers University. His research explores hardware/software co-design to deliver novel interactions across a broad set of application domains. By blending system building and design, Guimbretière and his students strive to turn future visions of seamless interactions into today’s reality. His prior work focused on pen-based interfaces and paper screens, but he currently emphasizes novel fabrication techniques and interactive printing, particularly with yarn-based fabrication. He is also interested in the intersection of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) and sustainability, as well as the design of immersive and engaging remote collaboration interfaces that limit the reliance on physical travel. Guimbretière completed his electrical engineering degree with a major in artificial intelligence at École Supérieure d’Électricité in Gif-sur-Yvette, France, before earning his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Stanford University. He joined Cornell University in 2009.
