Professor Lafond holds a master’s degree in philosophy from Université Laval (1990) and began his career with the Department of External Affairs in 1991. He worked at the Canadian Embassy in Caracas (1993–1995), the Office of the Canadian Executive Director at the Inter-American Development Bank (2000–2004), the Canadian Embassy in Brasilia (2004–2009), and the Canadian Consulate General in Monterrey, Mexico, as Consul General (2009–2013).
