Dr. Frank Knoefel holds the Bruyère Chair in Primary Health Care Dementia Research at the Elisabeth Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa. He works in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa and the Systems and Computer Engineering department at Carleton University. His research focuses on using technology to help older adults age in place, including developing sensor systems to reduce the risk of nighttime wandering among individuals living with dementia. Dr. Knoefel is instrumental in driving aging research at the Bruyère Research Institute and is a lead in cognitive health initiatives through the AGEWELL challenge. Dr. Knoefel received his MD from Université de Montréal in 1989, and completed his Family Medicine training at Université de Sherbrooke in 1991, followed by specialized training in Care for the Elderly at the University of Ottawa in 1992.
