Dr. Frank Detterbeck

Biography

Frank Detterbeck is a Professor of Surgery at Yale University and the Associate Director of the Yale Cancer Center. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology from the University of Michigan and his MD from Northwestern University. After completing general surgery training at the Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle, he pursued a cardiothoracic fellowship in thoracic transplantation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Over his long tenure, he rose to the rank of professor of surgery at the University of North Carolina before being recruited to Yale University in 2005. His major career focus is in thoracic oncology, emphasizing evidence-based care and multidisciplinary teamwork. He has published extensively on topics involving thoracic surgery, with over 150 papers and book chapters to his credit. He holds leadership positions in major professional societies related to thoracic surgery and is often invited to lecture on various topics at institutions and international meetings. His surgical expertise includes the treatment of lung cancer as well as a variety of other thoracic conditions, primarily using minimally invasive techniques.
