Frank Lee is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto in 2002, where his research characterized the interaction between dopamine transporters and alpha-synuclein, a protein implicated in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease. His research interests are focused on molecular neurobiology, particularly the molecular pathophysiology of schizophrenia, which has led to studies characterizing the direct interaction between dopamine D1 receptors and glutamate NMDA receptors. Lee also pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at Children's Hospital Boston/Harvard Medical School, contributing to studies that demonstrated the role of dopamine in the neurotoxicity mediated by alpha-synuclein while examining the molecular components of amyloid precursor protein processing. In 2004, he returned to Toronto to continue his research on the molecular neurobiology of the dopamine system at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and led investigations into the interaction between dopamine D2 receptors and dopamine transporters. His laboratory is interested in identifying and elucidating the mechanisms that govern dopaminergic protein-protein interactions and their roles in various diseases involving the dopamine system.
