Dr. Frank Nikulka

Biography

Frank Nikulka is a University Professor at the University of Hamburg, leading the Institute for Prehistoric and Early History Archaeology. His academic focus includes the Bronze and Iron Ages, emphasizing Slavic times, metallurgy as an economic factor, and societal determinants. He has investigated the causes of variability in burial customs during the metal ages and the cultural diversity of the first millennium BC. Nikulka obtained his Master of Arts from the University of Hamburg and completed his doctorate at the University of Tübingen, where he published influential works such as "The Hallstatt and Early La Tène Period Cemetery of Riedenburg-Untereggersberg". He pursued postdoctoral research on archaeological demography, contributing to the understanding of population structures in Europe during the Bronze and Iron Ages. Over the years, he has taken part in various archeological projects and collaborations, enhancing the field of prehistoric studies in Northern Germany, particularly focusing on Slavic settlements and burial practices.
