Biography

Frank Ostermann is an Associate Professor at the University of Twente, within the ITC faculty. He joined the ITC in 2014 after earning his Ph.D. from the University of Zurich in 2009. His professional experience includes working as a post-doctoral researcher at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission and consulting for Piksel Inc. His research interests are centered around the intersection of people, geography, and computer science, with a focus on new modes of production and usage of geographic information, particularly in crowdsourced volunteered contexts. Frank is also involved in the methodological developments associated with mobile data collection, edge computing, and environmental IoT sensors. An advocate for open reproducible research, he aims to improve scientific practices through his work and incorporates elements of Citizen Science into his projects. Frank also teaches courses related to Spatial Engineering and Geographical Information Management.
