Biography

Frank Rühli is the Director of the Institute of Evolutionary Medicine at the University of Zurich and a Full Professor of Evolutionary Medicine. He has a background in medicine, graduating from the University of Zurich in 1997. He later undertook a PhD in Biological Anthropology at the University of Adelaide. His career includes several significant positions at the University of Zurich where he worked as an assistant, senior assistant, and associate professor in the Institute of Anatomy. He completed his habilitation in anatomy and histology in 2007 and became the founding director of the Institute of Evolutionary Medicine in 2014. His research interests lie in evolutionary medicine, diagnostic imaging, ancient mummies, paleopathology, and the evolution of diseases. He has been involved in numerous projects and committees related to health and evolution, and has supervised multiple doctoral dissertations. Rühli also engages with the public through lectures and media appearances, covering topics such as the medical secrets of mummies and the impacts of pandemics.
