Professor Schaper’s group researches the synthesis and characterization of inorganic complexes to catalyze reactions that are important for research and industry. In particular, they are focused on developing new catalysts for the polymerization of cyclic esters to create biodegradable polymers. Professor Schaper received his Diplom (MSc) in Chemistry from the University of Konstanz, Germany, in 1995 and his PhD in Chemistry in 2002 under the supervision of H.-H. Brintzinger at the same university. Following his PhD, he completed several postdoctoral fellowships, including one at the University of Chicago and others at the University of Konstanz and the University of Basel. He began his career at the University of Montreal as an Assistant Professor in 2005, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011, and has since continued to contribute significantly to the field of chemistry, particularly in green chemistry and catalysis.
