Biography

Frank van Landeghem is an Associate Professor in the Division of Neuropathology at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. He graduated from the University of Muenster in Germany in 1993 and subsequently underwent specialized training in Neuropathology at Charite - University Medicine Berlin from 1995 to 2001. He has a comprehensive background, having worked as a neuropathologist at Charite and at the German Brain Tumor Reference Centre in Bonn. His research interests are focused on neuro-oncology and neuro-inflammation, substantiated by numerous publications and grants, including from the Alberta Cancer Foundation and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. He has published over 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has been involved in critical research related to brain tumors and infectious diseases affecting the CNS. His doctoral thesis explored morphological and histological findings in sudden unexpected infant death, while his habilitation addressed glutamate transport in the context of traumatic brain injury. He has contributed significantly to the academic community through his research on biomarkers and translational studies in neurology and oncology.
