Biography

Frank van Steenbeek is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University, specializing in translational cardiovascular genomics. He began his academic journey with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from 1999 to 2004. He completed an internship at the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, where he focused on sequencing a chicken BAC library and bioinformatics data visualization. In 2005, he began his research career as a technician in the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. He pursued a PhD track on the genetic background of congenital portosystemic shunts in dogs, which he successfully defended in 2013. Currently, he holds a joint position in the Department of Clinical Sciences and the Department of Cardiology at the University Medical Center Utrecht, actively researching cardiovascular genomics, particularly in relation to conditions affecting dogs, cats, and humans. Van Steenbeek has also engaged with the media, including an interview for the Dutch TV program EenVandaag, discussing his work on multi-species cardiomyopathy.
