Dr. Frank Wuest

Biography

Frank Wuest is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Oncology at the University of Alberta. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Dresden University of Technology in Germany in 1999. Following this, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Medicine in St. Louis, eventually becoming the Head of the PET-Tracer Division at the Research Centre Dresden-Rossendorf in 2001. In 2006, he completed his habilitation thesis in biochemistry at Dresden University of Technology, earning the Venia legendi in biochemistry. In 2008, he assumed a new position as the Dianne Irving Kipnes Chair of Radiopharmaceutical Sciences in the Department of Oncology at the University of Alberta. Wuest was a Senior Scholar for the Alberta Heritage Foundation Medical Research from 2010 to 2017 and holds adjunct appointments in the Department of Chemistry and the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Alberta. His research focuses on radiopharmaceutical sciences, nuclear medicine, cancer biology, and chemical biology, with a particular emphasis on imaging biomarkers and radiotheranostics for targeted molecular imaging in cancer therapy. His work has secured over $30 million in peer-reviewed grants and he has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Wuest serves as the scientific lead for the Alberta Radiopharmaceutical Collaboration (ARC), which aims to facilitate the clinical introduction of radiopharmaceuticals for improved patient care and outcomes.
