Dr. Frans Padt

Biography

Frans J.G. Padt is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education at Penn State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Sciences (Environment) from Radboud University Nijmegen. With a rich background as a researcher, educator, policymaker, and consultant, he has extensive experience in community and regional environmental planning and design. His areas of research and teaching emphasize the social and political dimensions of land use planning, community science, and public policy within the context of science, technology, and society studies. Padt is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Association for Society and Natural Resources. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, particularly focusing on community development planning in the Community, Environment, Development (CED) major. He has also been involved in the Graduate Program in Community Economic Development and the Graduate Student Online Teaching Certificate program. His recent publications span numerous topics in the field, providing significant contributions to the understanding of environmental governance and community planning. He actively participates in engaged scholarship and has presented at numerous conferences, showcasing his commitment to integrating education and research in practical and impactful ways.
