Biography

Frans van de Vosse leads the Cardiovascular Biomechanics research group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His research interests relate to computational and experimental biomechanical analysis of the cardiovascular system, particularly in the application of clinical diagnosis and intervention, cardiovascular prostheses, and extracorporeal systems in medical devices. The Cardiovascular Biomechanics group focuses on topics such as Blood Motion, Heart Work, and Vessels Stress. A common denominator in his work is the development of computational models and experimental techniques for medical devices, which play a crucial role in clinical diagnosis, decision support, and intervention. Van de Vosse studied Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology, earning his MSc in 1982 and his PhD in 1987, with a thesis that described a numerical analysis of carotid artery flow. From 1987 to 2001, he served as a lecturer in fluid mechanics within the Materials Technology group at TU/e's Department of Mechanical Engineering. He was appointed as a full professor in Cardiovascular Biomechanics at the Department of Biomedical Engineering in 2001.
