Biography

Frans P. Widdershoven was born in Sittard, Netherlands in 1959. He received his M.Sc. degree with honors from the Eindhoven University of Technology in 1984 and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Twente in 1991. He is currently a Fellow at NXP Semiconductors and a part-time professor at the Delft University of Technology in the Bioelectronics section. His research interests encompass embedded smart sensors and biosensors, signal transduction theory, low-power design, machine learning, and embedded hardware accelerators. He is also focused on smart systems, algorithms, and simulation. Widdershoven has authored 71 scientific publications and conference contributions, and he co-edited the book “AmIware, Hardware Technology Drivers Ambient Intelligence” published by Springer in 2006. He holds 44 granted patents and is an active committee member in the working group on “Physics Technology Instrumentation” for the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
