Fränze Progatzky is a Principal Investigator at the Kennedy Institute with a focus on tissue biology and mucosal immunology. His research interests revolve around understanding how different cell types collaborate to maintain healthy tissue function and coordinate responses to injury, inflammation, and disease. He is particularly fascinated by the tissue-regulatory processes orchestrated at mucosal barriers such as the gut and lung, which encounter constant exposure to external environments. His work aims to elucidate the mechanisms by which peripheral glial cells contribute to tissue immunity and regulatory functions. Previously, he completed his PhD in immunology at Imperial College London, studying acute and chronic mucosal inflammatory responses and later conducted postdoctoral research at the Francis Crick Institute, where he identified novel immunoregulatory functions of enteric glial cells in gut homeostasis. At the Kennedy Institute, he plans to integrate his expertise in mucosal immunology and neuroglial biology to explore the fundamental roles of peripheral glia in barrier tissue immunity. Fränze is currently recruiting postdoctoral research associates and aims to foster a collaborative and inclusive research environment.
