Dr. Fred Afagh

Biography

Fred F. Afagh is a Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Carleton University. He has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Washington State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo. His research interests focus on Vibrations, Structural Dynamics, Control, Smart Structures, and Stability Theory. He has explored various applications in elastic stability and structural modelling, particularly concerning thin-walled beams and helicopter rotors. His work also includes stability analysis of elastic systems subjected to complex forces and the development of smart structures for aerospace applications. Afagh has contributed to several journal articles and conference publications showcasing innovative modeling techniques and dynamic stability analyses. He has served on important committees, including the Stability Committee of the Engineering Mechanics Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
